Money-making platforms are having negative effects on plummeting teen mental health and well-being. Could a lawsuit change things? #Stoic #Stoicism #teens #socialmedia
Great article! As a former teacher and nanny, I am highly concerned about the impact of social media and technology on the lives of our children. It’s troubling and hard to see positives in the future around it. The lawsuit is an encouraging sign. Your kids are encouraging, too. It’s wonderful to hear there are kids out there that are pushing back. I really enjoyed reading this article! Thank you! P.S. Have you ever heard of Sherry Turkle? She has a great book on this topic.
Thank you, Lacey! I appreciate your perspective, and I'm sure you've encountered a lot of these issues as a former teacher and nanny.
We seem to be hearing negative news about social media and internet "entertainment" constantly, but there's been very little change and in fact the impact seems to be getting worse - which is why I found the Seattle lawsuit so interesting. I also saw that leaders in the state of Utah also announced that they are considering suing social media companies for similar reasons, in late January: https://www.deseret.com/utah/2023/1/23/23567879/social-media-damage-children-teens-utah-lawsuit-gov-cox
Thanks also for bringing up Sherry Turkle and her writing. I've heard about her books, and you have reminded me to add her to my reading list!
